In the last couple of years many riders have noticed an upsurge in popularity towards e-biking. With the recent pandemic crisis and the bike boom that went with it, even more people got into e-biking. The most popular segment in e-biking has to be mountainbike. The E-MTB market has already developed and matured in such a way that an E-MTB is generally accepted on the trails and in bikeparks.
That’s why we put our engineers at work to develop a new bike frame, specially designed for all our E-MTB enthusiasts. And we came up with our marvelous E11 Enduro bike frame.
Why do I even need an E-MTB?
There are a couple of misconceptions about E-biking we need to clear out:
- an E-MTB is cheating
This is one of the first things you’ll probably hear, alongside “You just push the throttle”.
To be clear it still is a bike, not a motorcycle. If you don’t pedal, you won’t go anywhere. It only helps you to get over the more difficult climbs and obstacles.
And who are we cheating on? We are not racing, most of us only ride in our own free time to have fun.
- e-biking is for when I’m unfit
You can work as hard as you want to and that’s the beauty about e-biking, you can make your ride as hard as you want it to be. If you don’t feel like raising your heartrate you can let the motor take over or you can have a good workout putting the assistance level to a minimum and put a maximum effort out. This means an e-MTB is for any type of rider, it can help a beginner with less fitness or it gives the more experienced riders simply more time. You can get more laps in the bike park or ride further in the same amount of time.
Another benefit of e-bikes, and one I experience personally, you can ride with everybody. E-bikes help people ride together or simply even ride again. I know a couple of people that due to injury couldn’t ride any longer on an analog bike but with the help of an E-MTB are riding again.
It also helps for less fit riders keep up with the fitter riders in a group.
Specifications of the E11-frame
With it’s modern geometry, 150mm of travel in the back and the integrated Bafang motor we engineered an E-bike to suit everybody’s wishes. You can go lap after lap in the bike park or discover new terrain without having to worry about your bike. It can handle the most technical of climbs and doesn’t fear any descents you’ll throw at it.
As usual, our framesets are made out of high standard carbon fiber. For our E11 frame we use Toray T700 carbon and it is available in different sizes going from 15 inch to 21 inch frames.
Needless to say it is up with all the modern standards like a tapered headtube, boost spacing, disc brake mounts and an integrated battery space in the downtube.
In the motor department we give you two options: the Bafang M500 system with 95Nm or the Bafang M600 system with 120Nm. They are both torque sensing e-drive motors which means the motor will only give assistance once it feels your pedal-input.
The difference between both motors is found in their respective power: the M500 is a 250 watt motor whereas the M600 is a 500 watt motor. But both motors share the same shell so they can both fit in the same bike.
The M500 motor is designed to be compliant with most countries with a speed limit on E-bikes, like in Europe and Australia, and as such has a speed limit of 25 km/h. The M600 has a speed limit of 40 km/h.
The motors have simple controls with 5 power setting, going from 1 where there is almost no boost help to 5 where you’ll experience the least amount of effort while pedaling. But do keep in mind that a hard working motor drains the battery a lot faster.
I think that the M500 motor is more suited for technical terrain riding whereas the M600, with it’s higher speed, is more suited for open gravel roads where you can simply crank your way to speed
An electric motor doesn’t run without its battery, here are also two recommended choices:
the Bafang BT F03 with 450wh capacity or the BT F04 with 600Wh capacity.
You should consider well which battery to choose from because many aspects influence your battery life on the trails. Riding style, your weight and your expectance from your e-bike.
If you want to ride all day or you’re a bit on the heavier side of the scale you should definitely consider the more powerful battery. Do you only need your bike to get your daily power hour in on your local trails. By all means you won’t need a heavier battery.
Conclusion
Our latest addition is a fun frame for any rider that wants a sharply priced carbon frame that masters the most exciting trails, no matter how steep, technical or long it may be.
With it’s 150mm of rear travel it’ll make those long gnarly descents feel like a walk in the park.
